In Maryland, all marijuana simple possession crimes carry a one-year penalty in jail and a $1,000 fine. Per Maryland, penalties for subsequent offenders can be sentenced to two years instead of one depending on the number of times you have committed the crime. For possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, there is a five-year statutory maximum before enhanced penalties. For possession of cocaine, heroin or PCP, there is a four-year statutory maximum. For distribution of any drug other than marijuana, there is a 20-year maximum penalty before any enhanced penalties are applied, if they're applicable.

Pringle, only the driver could be seized or searched when marijuana or other drugs were detected in the car. Since Pringle, every person in the car can be seized and searched.
